The overarching aims are to facilitate the development of the music industry within the county, to support Lancashire's music people, and to develop Lancashire's reputation as a place known for its music

The association was founded in October 2024 by Lancashire based music industry advisor/ business consultant/ practitioner/ researcher Tony Rigg in response to findings and feedback gathered through working and collaborating with Lancashire's music communities, and has quickly gained momentum and support

The LMA has affiliations with a number of organisations who are also invested in developing music and culture across Lancashire. These include Lancashire Music Service, Lancashire Music Hub, the University of Central Lancashire, and Arts Lancashire. Other organisations we are collaborating with locally include More Music, Skiddle, Actual Music, many of Lancashire's music venues, retailers, creatives, music industry practitioners, and various culture leaders from civic institutions. Collaborators from nationwide organisations include the Night Time Industries Association (NTIA), Music Venue Trust (MVT), Musicians Union (MU), et al.
