Developing Music Careers & Lancashire's Music Sector:
Is a free interactive session exploring how to navigate the music industry, build sustainable activity and connect with wider opportunities across Lancashire.
You'll explore practical approaches to:
Putting on and promoting music events
Releasing and promoting music
Building audiences
Developing music-related careers and projects
Making connections and finding follow-up support
Lancashire Music Association has been gathering insight, listening to music people across the county and identifying the kinds of support that artists, musicians, promoters, event organisers, venues and emerging professionals are looking for. This session is part of our response to those conversations.
The session will explore three connected themes:

Building a stronger music ecology and sustainable music careers
We will look at how a functioning local music ecology depends on people, places, scenes, networks and opportunities. This will include discussion around different music-related roles, the value of collaboration, combining creativity with management and planning, and how music people can develop versatile, resilient and sustainable careers in Lancashire.
2. Developing event culture and growing audiences
We will explore how more quality music events can help build local audiences, create opportunities for artists and strengthen the wider music scene. This will include how to approach running and promoting music events, taking music to the public and thinking practically about building audiences.
3. Digital DIY, releasing music and building online activity
We will cover digital DIY approaches, releasing music, setting up a digital record label and using online tools to support music projects and careers.
The session will be led by Music Industry Advisor Tony Rigg, founder of Lancashire Music Association, who is originally from Fleetwood and works across the music sector, music education, live music, music business, research and cultural development.
There will also be opportunities to ask questions, make connections and meet like-minded music people. Where people want to take ideas further, Lancashire Music Association will create opportunities for follow-up one-to-one advice and clinics.
This is also an opportunity to connect with Lancashire Music Association, share your perspective and help shape future music development in your town and across Lancashire.
This session is suitable for artists, musicians, producers, promoters, managers, event organisers, students, young creatives, venue people, educators and anyone interested in developing music activity locally.
Recommended for ages 16+. Under 18s are welcome. Under 16s should be accompanied by a parent, carer or responsible adult.

Are you interested in a music-related career, getting started in music, developing your own projects, or finding out what opportunities exist across the music sector?
First Steps into the Music Industry: LMA on Tour is a free, discussion-led session for young people, emerging artists, students, musicians, producers, promoters, event organisers and anyone interested in taking their first or next steps in music.
The session which is delivered in collaboration with More Music will shine a light on the wide range of career possibilities across the music sector, share practical insights, and help demonstrate that music-related careers are realistic and possible for people in the area.
We’ll explore themes including:
Music careers and industry pathways
Building confidence and developing your own projects
Running events and creating opportunities locally
Releasing music and building audiences
Digital DIY, labels and online activity
Making connections and finding follow-up support
