A Beginners Guide to Music Events
As part of this year’s Preston Jazz Fest, the Lancashire Music Association proudly partnered in delivering an inspiring and accessible workshop led by renowned music industry expert Tony Rigg. The session offered attendees an inclusive, informal space to explore the fundamentals of putting on their own music events—whether they were absolute beginners or budding promoters looking to sharpen their skills.Held in a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere, the workshop was packed with practical advice, behind-the-scenes insights, and real-world strategies drawn from Tony’s extensive experience as co-author/editor of The Future of Live Music, founder of UCLan’s MA Music Industry Management course, and former Operations Director at Ministry of Sound.
The session demystified the event planning process, offering attendees tools and encouragement to turn their creative ideas into reality. The response was overwhelmingly positive, with participants praising the down-to-earth delivery, open discussion, and sense of empowerment they left with.
This event reflects the Lancashire Music Association’s commitment to nurturing talent and creating pathways into the music industry through collaboration, education, and community. A huge thanks to Tony Rigg, Preston Jazz Fest, Arts Council England, Preston City Council, the University of Central Lancashire, and The Ferret for supporting this event.
Because we believe: a place with more music is a better place.
